foreign country, home?

HGTV entices me to consider trading in my U.S “digs” for real estate abroad. But would the exotic life on the Amalfi Coast in Italy provide a safe haven from local law if I found myself on the other side of it? Would U.S. citizenship guarantee me a fair trial thousands of miles from American shores? I wonder what Amanda Knox is thinking, sitting in a jail in Luca, Italy for what remains of her youthful years?…hugmamma.
