So let’s see.

As of 2012, the Census Bureau tabulated the population of the United States as in excess of 315,000,000. They are served by 435 elected officials to the House of Representatives. The 32 who perpetrated the government shutdown serve a total constituency of 4,778, 186…a little more than 1% of the entire population.

In other words, 310,221,814 Americans are being held hostage by 4,778,186 of their fellow countrymen…via the 32 representatives who say they represent their constituencies.

 This is one time when…

…goliath should haul off and wallop…david and his slingshot!!!…

    • Interesting and downright disgusting, actually. And did you notice how many states those 32 represent? Less than half…only 20, and most of them are from Texas. Perhaps we should let Texas secede from the United States of America as they’ve been wanting for some time. Otherwise, they seem intent on taking the rest of the country over the cliff with them. Seems we’re still fighting the Civil War, more than 100+ years later.

  1. I simply shake my head in disbelief about what is happening these days… disbelief. Thank you for those statistics…isn’t that stunning? It reminds me of a quote by Margaret Mead… but a group with a different kind of viewpoint… the power of a few… ….”Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” All the more reason and motivation to keep positively blogging, connecting with other positive minded people… still, I shake my head in disbelief…

    • I join you in disbelieving that so few knuckleheads can negatively impact the lives of so many…strangers. And yet, they keep saying…”the American people want…the American people think…” I don’t recall signing a petition allowing so few to speak for…so many. It seems those of us who aren’t on board with these folks should continue to…rumble throughout the blogosphere, and make our voices heard. We need to dispel the myth that nice folks always finish last.
