Is he making eye contact with me?
This may be the end of the bar scene for me.
“Yoo hoo! Over here!”
It’s unfathomable that any other could interest him.
Why look at us! We’re from the same class…the imperial whites.
Our breed has never mixed with coloreds. We are the elite among koi.
I hate mingling beneath my class. But alas, there aren’t many of us left. And to make matters worse, there are more of us sisters than there are males to satisfy.
Oh no! I don’t believe it!
He’s making eyes at Mulan…that yellow immigrant!
Damn coloreds!
Ouch. Human prejudices in the fish, and lovely (truly lovely) play on the word class – school – class. Yep. I get it. Very nice.

That’s funny. Notice I did say there were more white females than their male counterparts. That’s why my narrator was so aggressive. Could you tell which yellow koi was Mulan?

Dear Hugmamma,
Fish tarred with a human brush. Will they ever shed the stain? Good job.

Ha, elitist fish! Nice bit of social commentary.

I didn’t set out to make a social commentary. The story seemed to take on a life of its own as my fingers tapped away at the keys. Eerie… Hugs, however, for the nice comment.

I haven’t heard the word allegory in some time. Probably not since I was in school. I might try my hand at another some time, now that you’ve reminded me about allegories. 🙂 BTW…congrats and aloha for taking on this literary challenge. Kudos to you!

Interesting use of the fish colours – and the colour bar!

The story evolved because of the variety of koi colors. The dating part occurred because my daughter has recently tried match.com. The verdict’s still out as far as her opinion’s concerned about the dating site.
