Looks like the Republicans are getting ready for a knock-down, drag out presidential convention in Cleveland, Ohio this summer.

Trump is the designated people’s nominee, while behind-the-scenes the establishment is scrambling to offer up its own candidate. It might be that we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with respect to the sporadic bullying which have broken out at Trump rallies. His cult following is ready to take it to the mat with anyone who gets in the way of their idol, as he takes over the White House…Trump’s own D.C. Miralago.

With Mitch McConnell’s refusal to consider the President’s Supreme Court nominee today, it is apparent that Trump’s followers are spot on in thinking that Washington is broken. As long as established Republicans continue to face off against anyone with whom they disagree, nothing of worth is accomplished. Their own Speaker of the House Boehner threw up his hands in resignation, and quit the political scene altogether. It’s not that they can’t get along with Democrats, Washington Republicans can’t even get along with their Tea Party branch of conservatives. Time and again Trump has said that Ted Cruz is unable to work with his fellow congressmen and women.

The battle that ensued within the confines of Capitol Hill in D.C. has erupted onto the streets of small town USA. It was long overdue. The Tea Party, backed by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, was going to eventually overwhelm the Republican establishment. It was just waiting for the right man in the form of a billionaire whose agenda paralleled theirs in returning America to…a patriarchal, isolationist society, favoring white men.

If Trump is denied the presidency by his Party’s hierarchy, he threatens anarchy on the part of his followers. So it seems the Republicans have opened their own Pandora’s Box and are unable to contain the tornado it unleashed. Like a Jack-in-the-box, Trump keeps bobbing up and down avoiding the poisoned arrows hurtling his way. As a boomerang returns from whence it came, Republicans never figured on having opportunist Trump bum a free ride to the highest office in the land and the most powerful position in the world…at their expense. All the while…

…blasting the Party to smithereens.

what puzzles me…

Just when the economy is on the upswing, real estate has climbed out of the tank into which it took a nosedive, Wall Street is back to hedging its bets, health insurance is spreading its coverage to include the less prosperous, veterans are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel…Speaker of the House Boehner and his congressional cronies are trying to stir the Middle East pot in the hopes that America will muscle its way back into another war.

Perhaps Netanyahu and those supportive of his hawkish stance should stop hiding behind words and take up weapons to defend their beliefs. They don’t need to convince us to do their fighting for them. They should try some sacrificing on for size instead of sitting back in relative comfort, while thousands of men and women leave jobs, families, and homes behind…some even dying…to effect others’ politics.

Politicians have taken to playing with peoples’ lives. We’re like pawns on a chess board being sacrificed for the good of the king and his minions.

While I hope I’m wrong, it seems the pendulum will swing the other way in the 2016 run for the White House. It’ll be interesting to see if all fall in behind the leader, or if in-fighting breeds discontent.

And where does that leave us?

…sliding backwards into oblivion???

cat’s life…reminds you of…?

Here’s the latest contribution from my good friend Sylvia. It strikes close to home for me…on both counts. See if it does for you too…at least those of you in love with your pet felines. And all of us can relate to the punchline. Don’t cheat though. Read through the entire post…that’s the only way the end really resonates.

It’s just dawned on me!!

My cat sleeps about 20 hours a day.

He has his food prepared for him.

He can eat whenever he wants.

His meals are provided at no cost to him.

He visits the doctor once a year, for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.

For this he pays nothing and nothing is required of him.

He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.

If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.

He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.

He receives these accommodations absolutely free.

He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.

All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day.

I was just thinking about all this, and suddently it hit me like a brick!!!

I think my cat is a member of congress!!!

thanks for sharing, sylvia………hugmamma. 😉

focusing on forgiveness

Leo Buscaglia, my favorite author, and now my daughter’s, had amazing insight into “the better angels of human nature” that Lincoln spoke of in his first inaugural address in 1861. In his book “Loving Each Other,” Buscaglia writes

There is no more personally rewarding moment than when we can truly forgive and are forgiven. At that instant we become really free, free to move forward as fully functioning human beings. Illusions of perfection, ours and the others, are shattered and we accept and are accepted as the vulnerable, imperfect human beings that we are.

As we honor those who have fallen in Tucson, and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured, let us ask forgiveness for Jared Loughner, the 22-year-old, tragic, lone gunman. He was a child of the same society that created Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old, budding civil servant. It’s my sincere feeling that both were victims.

“Sins of the fathers are visited upon the children.”

All of us are responsible for all children. What we think, what we say, how we behave, and what we do, is of consequence to those who come after. So perhaps we should

Forgive those who trespass against us as we would have them forgive our trespasses.

maybe then we can be at peace with one another…hugmamma.
