weekly photo challenge: grand

Hubby and I were very fortunate to cruise the British Isles a couple of years ago on the Grande Dame of vessels…the Queen Mary 2. Getting lost was always a definite possibility.

…but discovering all the nooks and crannies…was well worth the adventure…

weekly photo challenge: surprise

This particular photo never ceases to amaze me. And although I’ve used it before in various and sundry other posts, I am compelled to bring it to the forefront yet again…in response to this week’s Word Press photo challenge…surprise!!!

IMG_0796That’s Sitka, named after a charming Alaskan village. I was there once, as a voyager on a Holland America Alaskan cruise.

A year later, 9/11 happened. The following day I adopted Sitka from the local Humane Society, along with his brother Juneau, also a namesake for a town in Alaska.

These two are daily reminders of both…the best and worst experiences I’ve known…cruising the glacial fjords of Alaska with 25 family members…and suffering through one of the saddest days for our country and, indeed, the world at large.

…life is…full of surprises…both good and…not so good…

weekly photo challenge: movement

On a cruise of the British Isles last Fall, the Queen Mary II was hailed with majestic fireworks while anchored in Liverpool. Lucky us, we had a ringside seat.  There’s nothing like the movement of explosive sparks of fire as they hang suspended…disappearing from sight shortly thereafter.

…movement…electrifying and ear-shattering…

…kinsale…far, far away

Visiting other blogs this morning has proven to be a treasure chest of wonderful discoveries.

A Year In The Life at http://ayearinmyshoes.wordpress.com posted photos of Kinsale. I’d forgotten about that quaint, fishing village in Ireland. When we were there in September, I think I walked around with my mouth open the entire time…oohhing and aahhing. I hope the pictures I took will put a smile on your face.

weekly photo challenge: sunsets

From the quiet isolation of my cabin’s veranda on the Queen Mary II, I was indeed lucky to glimpse the setting sun make its slow descent into the vast ocean beyond. I felt special, bearing witness to the magnificence and grandeur of the sun as it traveled on…bringing the dawn of a new day to another part of the world.

weekly photo challenge: ocean
